Patching Wide Areas of Damage

Sometimes a section of music is too badly damaged to be repaired by declicking alone. Examples include severe scratches or scuffs and tape 'dropouts'.

To patch such a damaged section, where the damage is spread over several thousand samples, VinylStudio attempts to reconstruct it from the music on either side. There are three different patch methods available, and which is best depends on the nature of the music, so try each in turn and listen to the results (which you can do straightaway).


The results of applying a patch might look like this. As you can see, the affected area of is very wide.


And here's a sound sample to give you some idea of the result. Still not perfect, but it makes a severely damaged recording playable:
