Technical Support / Re: Collection Identification

I have said the same thing in the past but it bears repeating.

For example, just last night I discovered that the product supports the use of external software to do some editing. Brilliant. Just a few days agao I found the notes I made 7 years ago on how to 'interrupt' VS's procedues in order to use 3rd party click and noise reduction software. At the time it was so complicated that I had to draw a flow chart, which even now has taken me an hour to understand. If I had just read the help file I would have seen how to do this quite simply. And it all (*) works to my great satisfaction.

(*) Subject to development on the clarity of the user interface wrt to name of current collection !

Is it correct that the detector in the Cleanup Audio window is accurate (since it deals with the actual digitized waveform and there is no headroom above 0db) and the one in the Recording window is more conservative, thus potentially indicating more clips?

I am sure there must be technical reasons why they can not be the same but it sure would be nice if they were.

Yes, we did make a (minor) change, but the algorithm for detecting clips is not the same in the two places in the code, so you will still see a discrepancy.

OK, we'll add something to the 'Create / Record new album' dialog.

Did this change make it into the latest release?  I did not see it listed and wondered if it came under the "A few other bug fixes and improvements" category.

Ahhh, it is obvious once you point it out.  I guess I was expecting to find a summary of the preamp factors applied to each side, much like the popup that is shown when the normalization process completes.  But having it available in some form is very helpful.

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I fully understand LateJunction's frustration.  His point was that the Collection in use be 'very clear'.  When you are working on a large screen and dealing with the various popup windows that nicely lead you through the process of ripping, having the Collection name tucked away in the top left corner of the screen is not 'very clear' IMHO.  That setting is central to the ripping you are doing at that moment, as important as any of the other features on the Record New Album popup.

And now I'll get off the soapbox...

In spite of this, you have an awesome product!

> All this could have been avoided if the product had made it very clear to me what collection I was working in

It does!  It's in the title bar of the window at all times.

There's one on our tutorials page:
