Code Signing

VinylStudio is digitally signed using a code-signing certificate issued to AlpineSoft by Comodo. To obtain such a certificate, AlpineSoft has to pass certain vetting procedures to prove its business credentials. Signing the program in this way assures you that the program was indeed issued by us and that it has not been tampered with en-route.

The following assumes that you are running Internet Explorer version 7. Other versions of IE do essentially the same thing, but the dialogs look somewhat different. Some other browsers also perform similar checks, but not all do (Firefox, for example, does not).

When you download VinylStudio, Internet Explorer will first display a (slightly alarming looking) dialog box like this:

At this point, IE does not know whether the code is signed or not because it hasn't downloaded it yet. When you click Run, IE downloads the file and then displays another dialog like this (on Windows Vista, the dialog looks a little different: the screen will dim and you will be asked for permission to continue):

This dialog shows you that the program is signed, and who by. You can also click on the AlpineSoft link to view our code-signing certificate should you so wish.
