For cassette tapes that have Dolby noise reduction, should it be turned on for recording?

Yes it should.
After recording, you can turn on the hiss filter and then use the graphic equaliser to boost the treble a bit, if that is to your taste.

Thanks again for the quick reply. I have been digitizing some old books on tape and the software has been great. Before I was recording the tapes onto CD the ripping the CD. VinylStudio makes the conversion much easier and I have more control over the results. Thanks.
