Listen to Just the Noise - Or have I overdone it.

Before I switched to Vinyl Studio my previous workflow was a hack of Audacity and ClickRepair, and its associated DeNoise program.

While Vinyl Studio is a lot quicker and smother to use, there is one thing I can't see how to do is get an indication of if I have over restored the whole record of just some sections.

In my hacked up workflow I was able to save an export of the whole album, after normalisation (and equalisation for 78s), do the restoration work, de-clicking and noise removal, save an export of the end result.

Then in Audacity I could Import both files, invert the second, mic the two together to get a track with just the noise.

I found this useful in two ways.

  •  If you could follow the tune in the noise, you had probably over processed it.
  • By looking at the bits of the track where the noise was most visible, you could spot where Dave had really gone for the rims shots or the ride cymbals and maybe turn the correction down a bit there.

Is there anyway of doing this in VinylStudio?

Sorry, no, this is not currently possible.  But are you talking about click repairs or hiss reduction?  Thanks.

Please note also that you can toggle between listening to the corrected and uncorrected audio in the Cleanup Audio window by pressing C (or use the button in the toolbar).
