Title: Replacing a side (file)
Post by: Jerrysnb on September 25, 2018, 10:30:09 PM
I've been working on an album with 10 sides, and I'm just about done. The tracks have been defined and the recordings cleaned up. Unfortunately, I've decided that one of the sides (number four) has an unpleasant amount of clipping. I'd like to re-record it, but I imagine that will make a total mess of the track breaks and names of tracks four through ten.

Any suggestions? Do you think that swapping out the .wav files outside of VS would preserve the track breaks on five through ten, and let me tweak the breaks on side four without losing their names?

It should be OK just to re-record side 4, as long as the new recording is similar in length to the old one.

You can drag track breaks as a group by holding down the Alt / Option key.

Yep, that worked. Moving the track markers as a group worked also worked quite well.

I didn't trust the click repairs to be in the right places, so I restarted that process from scratch.

I will say I'm getting sick of this album.

OK, thanks.

Just for the record, rescanning for clicks is only necessary for the re-recorded album side.  The other sides will be OK.

That makes sense. I figured that since the track breaks were moving, the click repairs would too; but in retrospect, I realize that the repairs are relative to the file, not the tracks.

Maybe I should revert back to the previous work and redo only the one side. (Yes, I made a copy of my project before rerecording the side.)

I'm getting pretty sick and tired of this five-disk set.  :D

Thanks.
