Title: Is there a way to populate the artist field automatically for compilations, etc?
Post by: GaryG on October 02, 2015, 04:02:58 PM
Hi Paul,
For compilation, musical, and soundtrack albums I use Edit Track Details to manually add the artist for the track.  Are you aware of a database that would allow me to automatically fill in the artist field for all tracks of the album or maybe import data for the track artist?  It doesn't appear that Discogs provides this capability.

I want to let you know that I installed the latest version two days ago and everything is working fine.

Hi,

VinylStudio imports the track artist from the Discogs and Music Brainz databases if they contain it.  In my experience, compilations on Discogs do contain this information, but I guess it depends on the source material.

If the track artist is present, it is shown in the list of tracks displayed in the Lookup Track Listing for the currently selected album, so it might be worth scrolling through the list of matching albums (there are often several) to see if you if you can find one that contains what you want.

I'm glad the update is working.  Thanks for the update.

Paul,
Thanks for the quick reply.  I've only recorded one soundtrack and one musical.  The soundtrack, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, does show the track artists in Discogs, but when I use Lookup Track Listing, the matching albums only show track title and track time.  Hopefully I'll be luckier with other compilations, soundtracks, etc.  The musical didn't show track artists in Discogs.  I plan to check other forums to see if anyone has used other tools such as MP3TAG to do it.
