Title: Sound input too loud?
Post by: fletch on January 22, 2014, 07:22:42 AM
I've got through about 20 albums since getting VinylStudio a few weeks ago and love it.
My only issue is I'm recording at around 11 or lower on the sliders all the time.
This doesn't give me much leeway to control clipping.
The sliders don't read any lower than 11, although I can set them lower (if that makes sense).

I'm using a Rega Planar2 hooked into an old Sony TA-70 amplifier, then through an iMic into a current iMac.
The iMic input sound preference is at the lowest setting.

Would I be better off using a preamp instead of the Sony?

Any thoughts or possible fixes would be much appreciated.

Hi,

You might look for some inline RCA attenuators, such as these:

They're a bit pricey because they are a specialist item, but still cheaper than a preamp.

Thank you Paul.
Did a search and found them in my hometown (Brisbane, Australia) for AU$77.
They also have a Harrison labs version for AU$55, which seem to get positive revues.

Problem solved. Cheers
