Title: ALAC file options.
Post by: matthew on June 27, 2013, 11:38:53 AM
Hi,

Whats the difference between the ALAC file compression options?

Ive generally left it set at 2 the default. The file sizes seems to remain roughly constant regardless of this setting.
I just wondered what it actually does and what it was meant for?

Thanks,
Matthew

Hi,

Apple's encoding routines let us set this parameter so we offer it through the user interface.  It is meant to offer a tradeoff between CPU time (when compressing) and compression ratio.  In practise, it seems to do virtually nothing so I would stick with the default setting.
