Title: New Feature - Auto select widest between track 'silence' for filters.
Post by: Steve Crook on January 10, 2021, 04:36:16 PM
Most of the time I use the widest 'silent' gap I can find between tracks as the noise sample for the filter settings. It would be nice to have a button on the the Filter Settings dialog that automatically selected it for me from those I've defined in the split tracks tab - avoiding fade in/fade out...

Hmmm, maybe.  It's not that hard to do it by hand...

I agree it's not hard but AFAIK the only way to determine the gap length is to select it, and then you lose the earlier selection. I do find myself spending time going through the gaps selecting them to see how long they are to be able to choose the longest.

So, questions:

Am I doing this the hard way? Is there a quicker method?
What's a good length of 'silence' to allow your algorithm enough to work effectively? Not a minimum, but a sample length beyond which there'd be no obvious improvement in performance...

Hi,

A second or so is enough.  You probably don't need to trawl exhaustively through looking for the longest gap.
