Title: A VS hang during cleanup audio
Post by: Steve Crook on August 30, 2020, 03:17:00 PM
Can't reproduce (all the very best bugs only happen once...), but I was doing this:

1. Recorded both sides of LP
2. Downloaded track and album information while recording, added composers, comments etc.
3. Positioned track markers
4. Click repaired the whole album.
5. Showed the filters dialog and selected a profile I'd prepared earlier and was prompted to provide noise sample
6. Selected an area between tracks, played it
7. Clicked button to say the region has been selected
8. Clicked on the "play selection" button
9. Clicked on the 'Close' button on the Filter Settings dialog while the selection was still playing.

At that point VS hung up. Checked with task manager and the process was not using any CPU, memory looked perfectly normal. Running on Windows 10 with the latest patches and latest VS. Writing to a USB SSD. As far as I could tell, Windows was not waiting for the drive and I could access it from Explorer. Audio output was via USB to a Schiitt DAC and I could play music on the PC using VLC and the DAC was receiving it while VS was hung. There was nothing else running except browser windows (Chrome) and Thunderbird.

I killed the process using task manager, but before that requested a dump so I have the DMP, hhc and hhk files in an archive, and that's too large for the message.

Uploaded it (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hqjmhElEOTJockaCmVJZOUJMGbZ44W2j/view?usp=sharing), you should be able to download.

Hi Steve,

Thanks very much for this, it was extremely helpful.  With the aid of your DMP file, we were able to reproduce the fault and will fix it in the next release, due out soon.  In the meantime, what triggered it was selecting a different preset (one which needs you to define a noise sample) while audio is playing, so just avoid doing that and it won't happen again.
