Title: Problem using firewire HD
Post by: ceulrich on September 30, 2010, 08:09:02 PM
I have a problem that I hope someone can help me sort out.

I am running VinylStudio (V7.5.4) on a G4 PPC Mac (OS 10.4.11) with an external firewire Behringer FCA202 sound card.  I can make recordings (96KHz-24bits) just fine when I store the recordings on the G4's internal hard drive.  However, if I try to use an external firewire hard drive to store the recordings (Iomega, 500Gb) the recording is garbled and full of distortion.

Other than systematically replacing each part of the recording chain, how does one go about solving this problem?

Thanks,

Chuck Ulrich

I actually have no idea.  It sounds like some sort of low-level interaction between USB and FireWire, although I have to say that such a thing is most unexpected.  But I can think of no other explanation.

If you like you can send me a sound sample.  Please record about 1 minute's worth to MP3 format (to keep the filesize down) and send it to:

Thanks.
