Apparent bug in VS: Importing a single song into VS, I set the track markers at the beginning and end of a song (there is no extra dead silence at either end I wish to delete) Then double-clicking on a track name to change it from "Track 1" to something more descriptive, both track markers are automatically moved several seconds to the right, extra space being added to the end of the song if needed to do so.

Yes, I would call that a bug. We will attend to it in the next release, thanks for reporting it.
If you hold down the Option key (or the Alt key under Windows) while you drag the start marker back to the beginning of the recording, the end marker will move too.
