Hi,
When recording I tend to keep just below the clip warning.
Is this the recommended thing to do?
I presume this is the best method of preserving quality by using the fullrange of the a to d converter?
Im assuming relying on volume normalisation looses fidelity if your having to say double the volume of your track in Studio using the normalisation function?
BTW How accurate is the clip indicator in studio?
Thanks,
Matthew
Hi,
Yes, you should set the recording level as high as you can without clipping occurring. VinylStudio's clip indicator is normally accurate but as I mentioned in my other post it's possible for clipping to occur without VinylStudio seeing it with some USB devices on Windows Vista and later. Use the 'Set digital gain to 1' button in VinylStudio's Check Level dialog to avoid this problem, if it appears there.
Hi Paul,
I'm using the mac version and didnt see any clipping anomalies
during recording. Will check again later.
Thanks
Matthew
OK. Maybe clipping is occurring upstream of the ADC. We wouldn't see it then. Keep an eye on the count of clips in VinylStudio's Record window.
