Title: Quality of repeated copy of MP3 files in Vinyl Studio
Post by: Stein on August 28, 2011, 10:53:57 AM
When including some downloaded MP3 files in a Vinyl Studio collection these files may be copied repeatedly during editing, i.e. saved to a file and then reimported into VS etc. Will the use of MP3 format in several of these steps give some reduction in quality? or should FLAC/WAV formats be used?

Hi,

VinylStudio does its best to avoid such copies but if you work on a copy of the file outside VinylStudio and then reimport it, a copy will be made.  A copy is also made when you save your tracks, although VinylStudio only copies those parts of the file which have changed.

So, if you are importing an existing MP3 file, working on it entirely within VinylStudio and then saving tracks, there's no need to convert it to a lossless format. On the other hand, if you are recording from scratch and then editing the file in another program for some reason I would record to a lossless format such as FLAC and save tracks as MP3 right at the end.
